Ester Zárate, from San Buenavista Amoltepec, Oaxaca, made headlines after completing a 14-kilometer race barefoot during the Trail de las Culturas Tlaxiaco.
Zárate finished the demanding course without wearing shoes and took first place in her category, highlighting her endurance, discipline and determination.
Her achievement has been celebrated as a source of pride for her community and for Oaxaca, as she carried the name of San Buenavista Amoltepec to the top of the competition.
