SANTO DOMINGO.- The Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto inauguration will take place this Thursday, June 25, in a ceremony led by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, marking the official reopening of one of the country’s most iconic sports venues following an extensive transformation process.
n” “nThe ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 in the afternoon and will feature the participation of government authorities, sports leaders, and executives from Banreservas, the entity that promoted the modernization project of the old Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace.
n” “nThe renovated facility was conditioned with a view to hosting important international events, including the 2026 Santo Domingo Central American and Caribbean Games and official commitments of the Dominican national basketball team.

n” “nThe remodeling included the installation of a modern FIBA-certified court, new bleachers, a state-of-the-art central screen, specialized medical areas, renovated locker rooms, and technological systems designed to meet international standards.

In addition, the venue incorporates improvements in climate control, security, lighting, and operational spaces for athletes, referees, technical staff, and volunteers, strengthening the complex’s capabilities to host large-scale sports and entertainment events.
The work is part of the Dominican Republic’s preparations to host international competitions and expand the sports infrastructure available for the development of various disciplines.
