Díaz Mattews, son of journalist Juan Bautista Díaz Cuevas and professor Martha Mattews, developed a recognized career in sports journalism, standing out for his analytical capacity and his passion for baseball, basketball and other disciplines that he covered in both written press and in radio and digital media. He worked for years in the International and Sports sections of the newspaper Hoy, in addition to promoting his own digital media, Tribuna Deportiva, and hosting the homonymous program that was broadcast on stations such as La Súper 107.7, La Nota 95.7 and ESPN Radio. He also maintained a space on his YouTube channel, where he shared analysis and interviews related to sports events. The Institute for Journalist’s Welfare and Protection (IPPP), through its president Olivo De León, expressed its deepest condolences to the Díaz Mattews family, recalling the effort and courage with which the young communicator faced a health condition that, over time, caused him several strokes (ACV). “We ask the Almighty to grant him eternal rest and provide strength to his parents, daughters, and other family members in this moment of sorrow,” said De León on behalf of the guild. Hansel’s remains will be exposed this Sunday starting at 11:00 in the morning at the Rubí Chapel of the GRESEFU Funeral Home, located on Las Américas Avenue, Ozama extension. The burial is scheduled for this Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Jardín Memorial Cemetery. Díaz Mattews, who leaves his two daughters orphaned, Naslhy (12) and Hanny (9), is remembered by his colleagues as a promise of national sports journalism, whose dedication and charisma earned him respect and appreciation in the different scenarios in which he worked.#Most read
