Apple is set to unveil its next generation of iPhones on September 9, with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max expected to headline the event. The company could also use the presentation to introduce its first foldable iPhone, a device that has been informally dubbed the iPhone Ultra.
Apple has confirmed the event date, although the company has not yet revealed the final specifications or prices of the new devices.
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to retain much of the design introduced with the previous generation while focusing on hardware improvements. Among the most discussed upgrades is the A20 chip, which leaks suggest could be up to 18% faster and 30% more efficient than its predecessor.
The Pro models are also expected to feature 12 GB of RAM, which could support Apple’s new artificial intelligence features. The cameras could receive a major upgrade as well, with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max reportedly adding a variable-aperture main camera that would allow greater control over incoming light and depth of field.
The Dynamic Island could become smaller, while the OLED displays are expected to remain at 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max, both with 120 Hz refresh rates.
Prices could increase
Apple has not announced pricing, but estimates cited in the report suggest the new iPhones could cost between $100 and $150 more than the previous generation.
The potential increase is being linked to higher component costs associated with the growth of artificial intelligence technology. If confirmed, the price hike would push Apple’s premium smartphones even further above the $1,000 mark.
Apple could finally enter the foldable market
The first foldable iPhone could be the biggest surprise of the event after years of speculation about Apple’s plans for the category.

According to leaks cited in the report, the device could feature an approximately 5.5-inch external display and a 7.7- to 7.8-inch internal screen. When folded, it would reportedly have dimensions similar to a passport, while opening it would provide a display closer in size to a small tablet.
The foldable is expected to use the A20 Pro chip and could have a battery of around 5,000 mAh and a dual rear-camera system with a main and ultrawide lens.
Another notable change could be the return of Touch ID, reportedly integrated into one of the device’s sides. This would allow users to unlock the phone regardless of which display they are using.
The foldable iPhone is also expected to carry a premium price. Comparable devices from other manufacturers are priced around $2,000, although Apple has not confirmed how much its model would cost.
Apple is also reportedly developing software specifically designed for the larger internal display, potentially incorporating features associated with iPadOS.
Standard iPhone 18 could arrive later
Apple’s launch strategy could also change this year. According to the rumors cited in the report, the standard iPhone 18 may not launch alongside the Pro models in September and could instead arrive several months later, potentially in February or March 2027.
