China has unveiled the BG-5, a bionic underwater robot designed to resemble a real fish and operate autonomously.

The robot, revealed at the CIFTIS expo in Beijing, is modeled after a golden arowana. It can swim for up to five hours while avoiding obstacles and uses onboard sonar for underwater surveillance.

The BG-5 is designed for dual-use missions, including infrastructure inspections, port monitoring and reconnaissance.
