Kolkata’s airport was partially flooded after record-breaking rainfall drenched the Indian city, leaving runways covered in water and disrupting normal operations.
Videos circulating on social media show aircraft landing through large pools of water after 163.3 millimeters (6.4 inches) of rain fell within just a few hours, setting a local rainfall record.
The intense downpour caused widespread flooding across Kolkata, submerging roads and overwhelming drainage systems as heavy rain continued throughout the area.
Authorities are monitoring conditions at the airport and across the city as emergency crews respond to the flooding.
