Storms that swept through Paris and surrounding areas on Thursday disrupted several train lines, particularly commuter services, French authorities reported.
Commuter lines A, C, D and R experienced temporary disruptions after objects, including trees, fell onto the tracks, causing delays of several hours.
As of its latest bulletin at 8:00 p.m. local time, Météo-France had placed 37 departments under orange storm alerts, the second-highest level on its four-tier warning system.
With winds potentially reaching 80 km/h (50 mph), the Paris City Hall closed the city’s parks and gardens from 8:00 p.m. as a precaution, according to Le Parisien.
Rail traffic was also affected by an electrical failure at Montparnasse station, one of France’s busiest railway hubs, causing lengthy delays before services gradually returned to normal.
