1,210 people were rescued from gender-based violence situations and stayed in Shelters

Santo Domingo.- A total of 1,210 people, including women and minors, were rescued from gender-based violence situations and protected in Shelters during the last year, President Luis Abinader reported when presenting his Accountability Report before the National Assembly, within the framework of the 182nd anniversary of National Independence. The leader reaffirmed his government’s “unwavering” commitment to respect, equality, and the absolute rejection of violence against women, while highlighting progress he described as historic in terms of protection, economic autonomy, and cultural transformation.

“Equality between men and women is a moral duty of the democratic State. A decent society cannot be built on inherited privileges or normalized violence,” he expressed.

During 2025, the comprehensive policy against gender violence provided almost 100,000 services to women in vulnerable situations, including 67,000 legal consultations and 24,000 psychological assistances. These actions resulted in 1,568 favorable sentences in judicial processes, strengthening access to justice.

The *212 Emergency Line intervened in 7,079 cases, while 84 victims of trafficking received specialized assistance. In addition, 4,888 social services were offered to families affected by femicides, with special support for girls, boys and adolescents, and the incorporation of 632 new families into the Economic Reparation Program.

In the preventive field, the Government inaugurated the Magaly Pineda School of Equality, an institution with a capacity for 250 in-person students and a virtual modality, which in 2025 trained 7,292 people in human rights, female leadership, and public policies.

The president highlighted that economic empowerment is key to breaking the cycle of violence. In that sense, 6,361 women received technical-vocational training in coordination with the National Institute for Technical Vocational Training (Infotep), even venturing into non-traditional trades such as electricity and mechanics. “Today, Dominican women have greater hope than ever”, affirmed Abinader, reiterating that his administration will continue to strengthen public policies aimed at guaranteeing real equality, effective protection, and greater opportunities for all.
