Santo Domingo.A court sentenced a Haitian national to 20 years in prison after he was found guilty of killing a fellow countryman in an incident that occurred in 2025 on the Hato Mayor-El Seibo highway, accepting the request presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The sentence was imposed on Joseph Yan (Yose Yan), after the Public Prosecutor’s Office demonstrated his responsibility in the death of Gilles Dieudonne (José).

During the trial, prosecutor Wilson Santana presented testimonial, documentary, material, and expert evidence that established the criminal liability of the defendant, who was found guilty of violating articles 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code, which sanction voluntary homicide.

According to the indictment, the crime occurred on June 6, 2025, at a farm located at kilometer 4 of the Hato Mayor-El Seibo highway. The victim was socializing with the now-convicted individual and another man not yet identified when they were attacked with a bladed weapon, specifically a machete.

After committing the act, Joseph Yan fled, but was subsequently arrested by the authorities.
