Santo Domingo.– Dominican households headed by women receive more social assistance from the State than those headed by men, according to the results of the ENHOGAR-MICS 2025 Basic Report, prepared by the National Statistics Office (ONE).
The study points out that 52% of households headed by a woman received at least one social transfer, while among those headed by a man that proportion was 40.5%, a difference of 11.5 percentage points.
Nationally, the report indicates that 45.6% of Dominican households were beneficiaries of at least one social assistance program, which reflects the reach of the social protection policy implemented by the State through the Social Development Directorate of Supérate.
Among the programs with the highest coverage is Aliméntate, received by 33.5% of households; followed by the Bono Gas, with 29%, and the Bono Luz, with 17.3% of beneficiaries. The report also includes other transfers such as Bono Mujer, Bono Navideño, Aprende, and Avanza.

Although the survey does not explain the causes of this difference between female and male headship, the results show that families led by women access social assistance programs more frequently.
