Santo Domingo.- The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, announced this Monday that the operational tests of Line 2-C of the Santo Domingo Metro will begin in September 2025.

In the meeting LA Semanal with the press, Abinader announced that the new metro line will connect kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway with the entrance to the municipality of Los Alcarrizos, thus expanding the coverage of the capital’s mass transit system.

El mandatario informó que “Yo seré la primera persona en abordar el metro durante estas pruebas iniciales, con el fin de verificar directamente el estado de los rieles y el funcionamiento general del sistema“.

The work is being developed by the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (Opret), the same entity responsible for the lines already operating in the country.

According to the schedule, Line 2-C will be open to the public in February 2026, once the testing and technical adjustment phases are completed. Abinader explained that it is normal for projects of this magnitude to begin their testing period about six months before their official inauguration.
