President Abinader puts Line 2C of the Metro into operation towards Los Alcarrizos

It will be free from this Wednesday until Easter

Santo Domingo.– The president Luis Abinader led the launch of Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro this Tuesday, a project that will benefit more than a million inhabitants of the municipality of Los Alcarrizos and surrounding areas of Santo Domingo Oeste. The new extension of the railway system is 7.3 kilometers long, with five stations, a 6.5-kilometer marginal road parallel to the Duarte highway, and a 940-meter tunnel, connecting 14 densely populated communities and significantly improving urban mobility in that area of Greater Santo Domingo. According to official data, the project required an approximate investment of US$506 million and includes civil and electromechanical works that will allow the system to transport up to 15,000 passengers per hour per direction, for an estimated total of 150,000 daily users. The stations that make up Line 2C are: Pedro Martínez, Franklin Mieses Burgos, 27 de Febrero, Freddy Gastón Arce and Pablo Adón Guzmán, the latter located at the entrance to Los Alcarrizos and connected to the Teleférico system.

In its initial phase, the service will operate free of charge from this Wednesday, February 25th until Easter, with special hours: Monday to Friday from 6:00 to 10:00 in the morning and from 6:00 in the evening to 10:00 at night; Saturdays from 6:00 to 10:00 in the morning and from 12:00 noon to 4:00 in the afternoon; and Sundays and holidays from 10:00 in the morning to 10:00 at night. Authorities estimate that this new line will allow savings of up to two hours a day in users’ commutes, as well as reduce transportation costs by up to 60%, also contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion and environmental impact on the Duarte highway. With the commissioning of Line 2C, the Government will have added 38 additional kilometers to the mass public transportation system, strengthening the Santo Domingo Integrated Transportation System (SIT), under the management of the Metropolitan Transportation Company, in accordance with Law 63-17 on Mobility.
