Abinader inaugurates early childhood education center in honor of governor Nelsy Cruz, who died in the Jet Set tragedy

Montecristi.- President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Friday the Jardín de los Sueños de Nelsy Cruz Initial Education Center, a space converted for the exclusive care of children aged 3 to 5 years, which will benefit 175 infants. As highlighted by the Vice Minister of Education, Oscar Amargós, this constitutes a true garden that welcomes the beginning of children’s educational journey, while honoring the memory of a woman committed to her people and their territory. During the event, Deputy Minister Amargós highlighted that Nelsy Cruz, daughter of teachers and former provincial governor of Montecristi, represents an example of service and love for her community that left an indelible mark on this province. He expressed that her unexpected departure saddened the community, but also recalls the importance of the public servant who performs his duties with vocation, dedication and a sense of responsibility.

“Today, as we inaugurate this center that bears his name, we pay a living tribute: a space where every boy and girl who begins their educational journey will also be part of this legacy. The joy we feel is the joy of feeling his presence,” he stated.

The official highlighted President Abinader’s firm conviction about the fundamental role that education plays in the development of the people, and said that in pursuit of the achievement of the RD 2036 goal, this region has been steadily strengthening its educational infrastructure through the delivery of new schools and dozens of classrooms, directly impacting thousands of students in the provinces of Montecristi and Dajabón.

“On this beautiful afternoon, in addition to the Caipi N Buenos Aires Children’s Center, which includes 10 specialized classrooms for children under 3 years old, as well as this educational center, we are also inaugurating and delivering four new classrooms, 18 renovated ones and two laboratories at the Corina Belliard High School, located in the municipal district of Hatillo Palma, Guayubín municipality,” he explained.

Also, a new classroom and 18 renovated ones at the Luis José Antoine High School, also in Guayubín; and two additional classrooms and seven renovated ones at the Santa Cruz Primary School, located at kilometer 11 of the Duarte highway Duarte. “Today we reaffirm that education is a fundamental priority, especially the strengthening of early childhood education. Our president has always emphasized the importance of enhancing this stage, because it is the way to guarantee the educational trajectory of children who begin their education. Montecristi and Dajabón share their commitment, Mr. President: that no boy or girl is left behind, regardless of whether they live in a rural or border community,” he expressed.

On his part, Nelson Cruz, former Major League Baseball player and brother of the late former governor, thanked on behalf of his family for the distinction, highlighting that the center reflects the legacy and essence of Nelsy Cruz.

New classrooms to strengthen public education in Montecristi The Nelsy Cruz Dream Garden Early Education Center has two concrete classrooms with gabled roofs and an additional pavilion with a flat roof, totaling eight remodeled classrooms. At the Corina Belliard High School, in Hatillo Palma, Guayubín, four new classrooms were delivered, 18 existing classrooms were renovated, and two laboratories were enabled, which significantly improves the infrastructure for the students of this center. The Luis José Antoine High School, also in Guayubín, received a new classroom and the remodeling of 18 existing classrooms, strengthening secondary education in the area. While the Santa Cruz Elementary School, located at kilometer 11 of the Duarte highway, received two new classrooms and seven renovated classrooms, expanding capacity and improving learning conditions for students.
