Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader ordered the replacement of the Dominican consul in Los Angeles, Alfonso Rodríguez, by appointing Carlos Gabriel García Candelario as the new head of that consular office.

The measure is contained in Decree 418-26, signed on June 19, 2026, through which García Candelario is appointed consul general of the Dominican Republic in Los Angeles, California, United States.

With this designation, García Candelario replaces filmmaker and producer Alfonso Rodríguez in the position, who served as consul general in that jurisdiction.

The decree is part of a series of moves made by the Executive Branch in the Dominican foreign service. In the same provision, Obispo de los Santos de los Santos was also appointed as consul general in Baltimore, Maryland; Tácito Leopoldo Perdomo Robles as consul general in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Bienvenido Alfonso Rodríguez Zorilla as ambassador in the internal service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX).

Decree 418-26 establishes that the appointments are made in the exercise of the powers conferred upon the President of the Republic by the Constitution and Law 630-16, Organic Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foreign Service. Likewise, it orders the provision to be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chamber of Accounts, the Comptroller General of the Republic, the Ministry of Public Administration, and other corresponding institutions for its execution.
