Azua.– Colonel Jiménez, commander of the Thirteenth Battalion of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) and head of the 19 de Marzo Fortress, has been suspended from his duties while under investigation for alleged irregularities detected during an inspection carried out by the J-2, a military intelligence agency.
According to information obtained from military sources, the investigation was carried out by surprise and reportedly identified situations related to alleged celebrations within the penitentiary facility, as well as inmate departures that allegedly did not comply with established procedures.
Among the facts under investigation are allegations regarding the alleged holding of parties inside the fortress, as well as the irregular authorization of outings for some inmates, situations that were reportedly detected during the inspection.
Preliminary versions also point to the case of an inmate who allegedly obtained permission to leave the facility and reportedly participated in a social activity held during the weekend of July 5 and 6 in the province of Azua.

So far, military authorities have not offered official details regarding the findings of the investigation or the additional measures that could be adopted as a result of the process.
The officer’s suspension remains in effect while the Army conducts the corresponding investigations to determine if there were violations of established protocols and to establish the appropriate responsibilities.
