Mexico.- At least three people were killed and four others were injured this Saturday during an armed attack in the middle of a wake in the state of Michoacán, western Mexico, according to state authorities.
According to initial reports, the shooting occurred in the community of Tzintzimeo, in the municipality of Álvaro Obregón, while a group of people was attending a wake for a deceased person.
The Ministry of Public Security (SSP) of Michoacán reported that, preliminarily, the toll is three people dead and four injured, who are receiving medical attention.
The agency added that the Civil Guard deployed an operation in the area to locate those responsible and reinforced the presence of security elements in the municipality.
Local media reported that among the fatalities there could be a minor of about twelve years of age and an elderly person of 75 years.

However, that information has not been confirmed by the authorities.
So far, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Michoacán has not reported on the motive for the attack, nor has it reported any arrests, nor has it released the identities of the victims.
For years, Michoacán has faced a persistent wave of violence associated with the dispute over territorial control and illicit activities by criminal organizations.
