La Romana.– Dominican authorities are closely monitoring the case of a senior citizen who was assaulted by his own son in the Pica Piedra sector, Villa Hermosa municipality.
The incident occurred in the residence where they both lived and was recorded in action while he savagely beat the elderly Ernesto Sánchez Mejía, who has delicate health conditions. The aggressor Arcadio Sánchez, known as “El Chulo”, was about to bathe him when he committed the act of violence.
Today, health sector authorities proceeded to transfer Ernesto Sánchez Mejía to a nursing home, with the aim of receiving specialized care and better care conditions. Meanwhile, members of the
Public Ministry and the National Police continue the search for Arcadio Sánchez to answer to justice for the events he is accused of.
Residents of the Pica Piedra sector strongly condemned the aggression and demanded that the case not go unpunished. Community members pointed out that the mistreatment of elderly people is a serious violation of human rights and called for exemplary sanctions.
The authorities reiterated their commitment to protect senior citizens and urged citizens to report any case of abuse or family mistreatment.
