Santo Domingo.- In the framework of International Women’s Day, Voluntariado Banreservas celebrated the event “Two Origins, One Purpose” Heirs of Valor, an initiative that highlights the historical background of this date.
The activity was led by Dr. Carmen Alicia Quijano de Aguilera, president of the Banreservas Volunteer Program, who conducted a live narrative that transported attendees to the most transcendental moments of these historical movements. Through images, audiovisual resources, and dramatizations, the audience experienced an immersive experience that combined history, reflection, and sensitivity.
During her speech, Dr. Quijano de Aguilera thanked the attendees for their presence and emphasized the importance of remembering these events, which marked a before and after in the fight for equality.
According to one of the historical versions, on March 8, 1857, a strike took place in the United States led by female workers who demanded better wages, more decent working conditions, respect for rest hours, and the reduction of extensive working hours.

“The history of this strike is also linked to a fire that occurred in one of the textile factories, a regrettable event that spurred the creation of labor safety laws,” said Dr. Quijano de Aguilera.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the United Nations officially recognized this date and urged member states to institutionalize its commemoration globally.
She added that March 8th is the recognition of women’s work and “should be a holiday for the advances and development that women have achieved in all areas.”
