Barcelona Marathon reaches 37,000 bibs and is now the most popular in Spain

The Zurich Barcelona Marathon, which will take place on March 14th, has sold out all 37,000 available bib numbers four and a half months before the event, a historic figure that makes it the most popular in Spain and the fourth in Europe.
For the third consecutive year, the Barcelona race, organized by the City Council of the Catalan capital and RPM Sports, has sold out all the bib numbers it had put on sale.
After reaching 27,000 participants in 2025 and 32,000 in 2026, the Zurich Barcelona Marathon sets a new record participation figure. In the two previous editions, bib numbers sold out in January, a fact that in this edition has occurred four and a half months in advance.
The growth in recent years has been spectacular: in 2016, the 20,000 participant barrier was surpassed for the first time, a figure that was maintained the following year and subsequently suffered a certain decline, aggravated by the pandemic.
In 2024, the figure of 20,000 participants was reached once again, and since then, growth has been unstoppable, reaching 37,000 bibs for the next edition, which will be the 48th in the history of the race.
The appeal of the Barcelona brand, a circuit that runs through some of the city’s most iconic locations and is also very fast following the latest modifications, along with the good times recorded in recent editions, have placed the race among the best in Europe.
In Spain, it already surpasses Valencia (36,000 participants), from which it once again snatches the lead as the most popular, and across the entire continent, Barcelona only has London, Paris, and Berlin ahead of it.
A race that is increasingly international, with 35% of registrants coming from Spanish territory and 65% from abroad. Among the international participants, France is the country that contributes the most runners, with almost 8,000, ahead of the United Kingdom (5,000), Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, the latter three with approximately 1,000 participants each.
In total, the 2027 Zurich Barcelona Marathon will feature representation from 107 different countries, including the Maldives, the Cayman Islands, Martinique, and Kyrgyzstan.
