Santo Domingo.– The Bar Association of the Dominican Republic (CARD) positively assessed the fiscal measures announced by the Government to address the effects of the international economic crisis, although it requested that incentives and benefits aimed at legal professionals also be considered.
The entity considered that the provisions presented by the authorities constitute a responsible response to the complex global economic landscape and highlighted several initiatives aimed at protecting the middle class, strengthening micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and preserving the country’s economic stability.
The president of the CARD, Trajano Vidal Potentini, stated that the measures announced by the Government contain favorable elements for various productive sectors and for taxpayers, especially those related to tax simplification, the elimination of burdens for small businesses, and the strengthening of mechanisms aimed at boosting economic growth.

However, the guild raised the need to establish specific incentives for the legal profession, arguing that thousands of lawyers practice independently and face significant economic challenges derived from operating costs, informality, and the technological transformations the sector is experiencing.

Vidal Potentini maintained that legal professionals perform an essential function in the administration of justice and in the defense of citizens’ rights, which is why he believes they should be included within the support and stimulus policies that accompany any fiscal initiative.
The union leader indicated that the sector’s proposals include tax facilities, financing mechanisms for law firms, and professional strengthening programs that contribute to improving the working conditions of lawyers throughout the national territory.
Likewise, he valued that the Government has opted to keep the ITBIS rate unchanged and preserve benefits for broad sectors of the population, while promoting measures to combat tax evasion and expand the State’s collection capacity.

The CARD expressed its willingness to participate in the dialogue spaces developed around economic and fiscal initiatives, with the aim of presenting proposals that favor both legal professionals and the institutional strengthening of the country.
