Santiago. – A lifeless body was recovered on Tuesday afternoon in the Yaque del Norte River, at the height of the gate of the La Otra Banda sector of this city, after a joint operation led by the Civil Defense and several emergency organizations, authorities reported. The body was recovered after 2:00 p.m., after aquatic units of the Civil Defense, in coordination with the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1, the Fire Department and the National Police, managed to locate and extract the body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition. As of yet, the identity of the person and the circumstances of their death have not been established. Representatives from the Public Ministry, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) were present at the scene, and they have taken over the corresponding investigative process. Following the removal, Civil Defense formally handed over the body to the relevant authorities, and it was subsequently transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in Santiago, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The Rescue Unit of the Civil Defense stationed at the entrance of the Cibao International Airport participated in the operation, which, after concluding the work, returned to its base to continue with the preventive operation “Conscience for Life”. The authorities reiterated their commitment to maintain inter-institutional coordination to guarantee citizen security and provide timely responses to emergency situations.
