San Pedro de Macorís.— Hundreds of patients were left without receiving care this Tuesday in public hospitals in the Eastern region due to the strike called by the Dominican Medical College (CMD), demanding improvements and other claims for the health sector.
The protest mainly impacted users who arrived for scheduled appointments, many of them coming from rural communities, who found outpatient services suspended.
Among the affected centers are the Doctor Teófilo Hernández hospital, in El Seibo, as well as the Leopoldo Martínez, in Hato Mayor; the Doctor Antonio Musa, in San Pedro de Macorís; the Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia General and Specialties Hospital (HGENSA), in Higüey, and the Doctor Francisco Gonzalvo and Arístides Fiallo Cabral hospitals, in La Romana.

Throughout the day, hospitals kept only emergency areas and care for critically ill patients operational, while outpatient consultations and other services were suspended as part of the protest.
The CMD maintains that the strike seeks to draw the authorities’ attention to a series of demands related to working conditions and the public health system.
