Santo Domingo.– The Emergency Operations Center (COE) declared nine provinces of the country under a green alert this Wednesday due to the increase in humidity and the incidence of a trough, conditions that will favor the occurrence of moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated wind gusts.
The provinces under alert are Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña, Santiago, San Juan, Monte Cristi, Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Valverde and Dajabón, where authorities are maintaining preventive surveillance for possible flash floods of rivers, streams and creeks.
The agency explained that the rains will be concentrated mainly in the northern region, the eastern plains, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area, as a result of the combination of local effects, daytime heating, a trough at different levels of the troposphere, and the decrease of Saharan dust over the national territory.

Given this situation, the COE urged the population not to cross rivers, streams, or creeks with high volumes of water, as well as to refrain from using swimming areas located in the provinces under alert.
The entity also recommended staying alert to official bulletins issued by civil protection agencies and adopting the necessary preventive measures to avoid incidents during the period of atmospheric instability.
