Colombian woman arrested at AILA with 49 garments impregnated with alleged cocaine

Santo Domingo.– Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), in coordination with members of the Public Ministry and security agencies stationed at the Las Américas International Airport (AILA), arrested a Colombian citizen who was transporting 49 items of clothing impregnated with a substance presumably cocaine. The detainee, 26 years old, was intercepted during inspection work carried out at the airport terminal, where the authorities detected irregularities in several items of clothing she was carrying in her luggage. After a more thorough review, it was determined that the garments were impregnated with a substance that is presumed to be cocaine.

The evidence was seized and sent to the corresponding laboratories to establish the exact weight and chemical composition of the seized material. Meanwhile, the authorities are deepening the investigations to determine if the foreigner is part of an international network dedicated to drug trafficking. The DNCD reported that the woman will be brought before the justice system in the coming hours for alleged violation of Law 50-88 on Drugs and Controlled Substances. The case adds to other recent operations carried out at the country’s airports as part of the strengthening of control measures to combat drug trafficking and other illicit activities linked to organized crime.
