Santo Domingo Este,– Two active agents of the National Police and two civilians were arrested during an operation in which authorities seized 10 packages of a substance presumed to be cocaine, in addition to cash, firearms, and several cell phones.
The incident occurred on July 21st on Hípica Avenue, where a police patrol observed four men acting suspiciously next to two parked vehicles. After the inspection, the officers located the packages inside a Hyundai Sonata car. The substance was wrapped in black plastic with distinctive logos.
The detained police officers were identified as privates David Alexander Peña Matos, 24, and Frangeli Báez Sena, 22. Along with them, civilians Cándido Rafael Acosta Hernández, who has a record for drug trafficking, and Yesaisel Féliz Matos were arrested.
During the intervention, RD$40,000 in cash, several firearms, and telephone equipment were also seized. Investigations also established that Peña Matos was carrying a Glock 17 pistol without the corresponding documentation, in addition to his service weapon.

The authorities are investigating whether this seizure is related to the confiscation of eight packages of alleged cocaine carried out on July 1st in the Pedernales province. According to the investigations, both shipments have similar logos on their packaging, which could indicate a possible connection between the cases.

The four detainees remain in the custody of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and the Public Ministry, while investigations continue to determine the origin and destination of the seized substance, as well as to identify other possible accomplices. The case comes at a time when the National Police is facing several investigative processes related to alleged drug trafficking activities and other irregularities within the institution.
