Santo Domingo.– The deputy for the province of Azua, Grey Pérez Díaz, presented a bill before the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies that seeks to declare that demarcation as the Tomato Capital of the Dominican Republic, highlighting the importance of this crop for the economic and agricultural development of the province.
During her speech, the legislator highlighted that Azua has become the country’s main tomato production center, due to the fertility of its lands, the capacity of its producers, and the investments promoted by both the State and the private sector to strengthen the agro-industry.
Pérez Díaz explained that the initiative aims to recognize the province’s historical contribution to national tomato production, as well as to promote new investments, boost agro-industrial development, create jobs, and strengthen Azua’s productive identity.

The congresswoman pointed out that the tomato production chain constitutes one of the main sources of income for hundreds of Azuan families and represents an essential component of the region’s economy.
