Copa Airlines highlights the rise of female pilots in its Boeing 737 fleet

Panama.- Copa Airlines, the main Panamanian airline, reported this Tuesday the promotion of 43 first officers to the rank of captain, 5% women, as part of its model of technical talent development and strengthening of its air operation. Copa said in a statement that this professional advancement is “a milestone in the pilots’ careers“, who assume “with greater responsibilities at the controls of commercial aircraft of the Boeing 737 fleet of the airline”. In the promotion, 5% of the pilots promoted are women, “in line with the sustained advancement of female participation in technical and leadership positions within the air operation“, Copa highlighted. It underlines that as of today “women represent 12% of the total Copa Airlines pilot workforce, one of the highest percentages in the aviation industry internationally.” These trajectories, according to the information, reflect the focus of Copa Airlines on the development of internal talent and the creation of professional growth opportunities within its operation.

“At Copa Airlines, promotion to captain is part of an operational model that prioritizes safety, consistency, and well-founded decision-making,” stated the Vice President of Flight Operations of the airline, Bolívar Domínguez.

The airline executive added that this training process is carried out under the “highest industry standards and ensures that every pilot who reaches this rank is prepared to lead the cockpit in complex operational environments”.

Copa explains that the promotion to the rank of captain is the result of a “demanding and progressive” training process, designed to prepare pilots to assume leadership and decision-making in the cockpit. Copa Airlines has a team of more than 1,445 pilots and plans to incorporate more than 350 in the next 3 years, in line with the expansion of its fleet, the growth of its route network and the strengthening of the Hub of the Americas, the main connection center of the continent.
