The Director General of Customs, Nelson Arroyo, valued the announcement of the construction of Google’s International Digital Exchange Port, a strategic infrastructure that will transform the country into a dual hub, combining its physical logistical strength with a growing digital connectivity capacity.
The new Google International Digital Exchange Port introduces the country to “global connectography” and consolidates its role as a logistical and digital hub of the hemisphere, providing: greater speed and operational efficiency, advanced regional integration, boost to FDI, expanded trade competitiveness, and digital transformation of trade and customs.
The official highlighted that, with this work, we will have a secure, fast, and integrated customs, efficient for strengthening the State’s revenues and improving the international trade experience.
“For the General Customs Directorate (DGA), the new infrastructure will allow: advanced cargo analysis and automated risk profiles,” Arroyo pointed out in relation to the announcement made at the National Palace by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in the presence of representatives of the multinational Google.
He added that it will also allow integration with port, airport, and border systems, greater trade facilitation, and security control.

“Few Caribbean countries combine deep-water port infrastructure, political stability, dynamic free zones, and now a strategic digital connection with the United States,” said the Customs director.

He insisted that the project positions the Dominican Republic as a hemispheric technological and commercial hub, capable of attracting foreign direct investment, boosting exports, generating technology transfer, and strengthening monetary stability.
This project marks a milestone in the process of modernizing the national productive ecosystem by integrating advanced connectivity, new data routes, and technological capabilities aimed at facilitating trade, strengthening security, and attracting foreign direct investment.
The arrival of Google’s digital center, along with two new submarine cable connections, elevates this ecosystem towards an integral logistics hub, where goods and data flow in a synchronized manner and with low latency towards the main technological centers of the United States.
This digital port will allow local and multinational companies to operate more efficiently, thanks to: real-time visibility and traceability, intelligent customs processing, risk management supported by AI, and validation through secure technologies such as blockchain.
These capabilities reduce operating costs, improve dispatch times, and strengthen the resilience of supply chains.
