DGM intervenes in the country’s commercial arteries; detains 1,221 foreigners and deports 955

The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) of Santo Domingo continues with immigration control operations nationwide, for these dates of intense commercial activity due to Black Friday and on the eve of Christmas. As a result of these actions, the detention of 1,221 Haitian nationals in an irregular condition was achieved. Of this total, 955 were deported to their country of origin, ensuring an assisted return and complying with due humanitarian attention. This Friday, there was a greater number of arrests in the National District, Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros, and in the East Zone of the country, in sectors such as Manoguayabo and along the entire Luperón Avenue and its surroundings. There were also important interventions in Santa Elena de Barahona and in San Marcos de Puerto Plata. In the distribution of detentions nationwide, of the 1,221 people in irregular condition, 165 were detained in Gran Santo Domingo; 112 in Santiago de los Caballeros; 52 in La Vega; 34 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez; 128 in the East Zone; 47 in Azua (Los Pilones); 31 in Barahona; 11 in Puerto Plata and 59 in Montecristi. Also, DGM agents detained 81 in Dajabón, 43 in Elías Piña, 74 in Independencia/Jimaní and 51 in Pedernales, totaling about 888. In addition to these figures are the apprehensions made by other institutions in coordination with the DGM, including the Dominican Republic Army, which detained 192 people; Cesfront with 99, and the National Police, with 42, in actions where the Dominican Republic Navy, the Air Force, Ciutran, Digesett and the Public Ministry, among other entities, also participated, for a total of 333. While the 955 undocumented deportees were returned to their country through the binational border gates, with a breakdown of 483 through Elías Piña, 325 through Dajabón, 117 through Jimaní and 30 through Pedernales, being received by the Haitian immigration authorities.
