Santo Domingo.- The election of Juan Garrigó as secretary general of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for the 2026-2030 period opens a new stage within the ruling organization and once again places the debate on generational change in Dominican politics on the table.
Political scientist and journalist Angely Moreno valued Garrigó’s election as a sign of renewal within the party and highlighted the experience that, despite his youth, he has accumulated in different areas of the organization.
Moreno maintained that Garrigó has had a political involvement that transcends visible positions and that for years he has been involved in electoral processes, alliances, and internal party work.
“Juan Garrigó had something that no other leader had,” he stated, highlighting that he began to get involved in politics from a very young age and has experienced the Mejía family’s political process up close.
For the political scientist, one of the main strengths of the new secretary general is his ability to relate to different sectors and maintain a conciliatory attitude.
“He is a person of truly exquisite manners,” noted Moreno, who also highlighted his empathy and closeness to the organization’s leaders.
In his view, that combination of political experience, capacity for dialogue, and closeness to the grassroots can become an advantage for Garrigó in his new responsibility.

During an interview on the radio program “Esto No Tiene Nombre” on La Nota 95.7 FM, Moreno also interpreted the choice as a sign that the PRM is beginning to open space for new generations of leaders. In that context, he considered the message conveyed by Hipólito Mejía during the day to be significant, as he expressed his satisfaction with the result and spoke of a transfer of political legacy.

The political scientist even suggested that Garrigó possesses qualities that could allow him to project himself in the future beyond the General Secretariat.

The new leadership of the PRM will now face the challenge of maintaining the internal cohesion of the organization while, at the same time, preparing a new generation to assume greater responsibilities within the party.
