Santo Domingo.- The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) chose this Sunday the new authorities that will lead its direction during the 2026-2028 period, with President Luis Abinader at the head of the political organization.
Alongside Abinader, Deligne Ascención was selected as first vice president, while Juan Garrigó Mejía will occupy the General Secretariat and Gloria Reyes will assume the National Organization Secretariat, one of the strategic positions within the party structure.
The new leadership was approved by acclamation through a single slate, the result of agreements reached between the main leaders of the PRM, including Abinader, former President Hipólito Mejía, and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.
The new authorities will be sworn in in September and will be responsible for leading the ruling party for the next two years, a period that includes the internal process scheduled for 2027 and the preparation of its political structure for the next electoral cycle.
Changes in the PRM leadership
The selection implies a recomposition of the organization’s main leadership positions. José Ignacio Paliza leaves the presidency of the PRM, while Carolina Mejía concludes her term as secretary general.

One of the most significant moves is the arrival of Juan Garrigó Mejía to the General Secretariat, from where he will have a central role in the political and administrative leadership of the party.
Likewise, Gloria Reyes was chosen to lead the National Organization Secretariat, a position in charge of strengthening territorial structures, coordinating the membership, and the political organization of the PRM throughout the country.

The integration of Garrigó Mejía and Reyes into top-tier positions is part of the understandings reached among the different sectors that gravitate within the ruling party. The political faction linked to David Collado and Eduardo Sanz Lovatón also participated in those agreements.
Gloria Reyes assumes a key position
Reyes arrives at the National Organization Secretariat after developing a political career that began in 2010 within the youth structures of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).
Subsequently, she participated in the formation process of the PRM and has held various responsibilities within the organization. She was a deputy for Santo Domingo Oeste, a member of the Executive Directorate, and has participated in electoral campaign supervision tasks.
In public administration, she headed the Supérate program and in 2026 she took office as Minister of Women.
With the new composition, Abinader, Ascención, Garrigó Mejía, and Reyes now occupy four of the main leadership positions of a PRM that is beginning a new stage of internal reorganization, while its various leaders begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 political landscape and the upcoming electoral challenges.
