Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) reported that a delegation of four students from public and private educational centers in the country participated in the twenty-seventh Mathematics Olympiad of Central America and the Caribbean, held in Cartago, Costa Rica from December 6 to 13, where 42 young people from 12 countries competed.
The Dominican delegation was made up of David Emmanuel Fernández Abreu, 15 years old, from the Pilar Constanzo Polytechnic Institute; who obtained a Bronze medal; and Mijael Kirk Rondón Arias, 16 years old, from the Riobisa Christian School; Baldwin Huang, 16, from Saint George School and Anyermy Xavier Mejía Martínez, 14 years old, from the Shammah Christian School, received an honorable mention.
The Minerd explained that in this competition the Dominican Republic achieved an excellent performance, scoring 52 points and reaching the number 8 position regionally, and highlighted that these awards are a reflection of the students’ effort of hours of study and the dedication they put into each mathematical exercise.
With the competition, which is organized through the Impact Programs Office, of the General Directorate of Curriculum of the Minerd, students’ interest in mathematics is fostered with innovative and motivating teaching.
The Minerd said that the olympiad promotes creativity, logical reasoning, and the resolution of mathematical problems; it encourages integration and teamwork among participants; in addition, it allows students to apply mathematical knowledge in complex and challenging situations.
