Santo Domingo.– The national electricity demand set a new historical record this Monday by registering 4,203 megawatts (MW) of instantaneous power supplied at 8:56 p.m., reported the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, who highlighted that the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) fully responded to the increase in consumption.
With this new mark, the country surpasses for the fourth consecutive record the historical highs reached during July, reflecting the sustained growth of electricity demand in the middle of the summer season.
Through his account on the social network X, Santos indicated that it was foreseeable that the system would continue to set new consumption peaks and assured that this trend will continue for the remainder of July, as well as in the months of August and September, when high temperatures and increased use of air conditioning equipment significantly raise energy demand, all combined with greater economic activity that has been recorded throughout the year.
The new record exceeds the 4,195.26 MW reached on the 23rd of this month and adds to a series of all-time highs reached this same month. On July 16th, the system supplied a demand of 4,166.52 MW; subsequently, it reached 4,185.11 MW; then 4,195.26 MW, and now it sets a new mark with 4,203 MW of instantaneous power.
Likewise, he highlighted that the electrical system has been able to meet each of these new peaks thanks to the strengthening of the installed generation capacity, a result of the investments made in recent years to diversify and make the national energy matrix more resilient.
