The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, reported that the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) recorded a new historical peak of instantaneous demand last night, reaching 4,185.11 megawatts (MW) at 10:11 p.m., a behavior that, he stated, reflects the sustained growth of electricity consumption in the country and the system’s capacity to respond in a stable and reliable manner.
He explained that this trend will continue throughout the summer and that the demand was met thanks to the country having a resilient and diversified installed generation capacity.
Santos stated that this new milestone confirms the importance of the alliance between the public and private sectors to strengthen the national electricity system, as part of the transformation the sector is undergoing thanks to investments in generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as the energy matrix diversification strategy promoted by the Government.
He pointed out that the system responded stably to the new peak in demand thanks to the investments made in recent years to expand energy supply, incorporating new generation plants that strengthen the reliability and operational flexibility of the SENI.
The head of Energy and Mines indicated that the demand was met through a combination of generation sources that were essential to supply the high consumption recorded and maintain the stability of the system.

“This new record demonstrates that the country has a more robust, resilient, and diversified electrical system, prepared to respond to the growth in demand and support national economic development,” he stated.
The new all-time high of 4,185.11 MW surpasses the previous mark of 4,166.52 MW, recorded last July 16 at 9:58 p.m., and confirms the trend of sustained growth in electricity consumption in the country.
