Santo Domingo.– The electricity demand of the Dominican Republic broke its historical record again for the second consecutive day, reaching an instantaneous power of 4,195.26 megawatts (MW) at 9:32 p.m. on Wednesday, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, reported this Thursday.

The new record surpasses the 4,185.11 MW registered on Tuesday night, confirming the sustained growth trend in electricity consumption in the country, driven by high temperatures, the expansion of economic activity, and the increase in electrification across different sectors.

Through his account on the social network X, Santos highlighted that the national electrical system managed to fully meet the reached demand and warned that projections indicate that consumption will continue to increase over the coming days.

“Last night at 9:32, for the second consecutive day, the highest historical satisfied energy demand was exceeded with 4,195.26 MW of instantaneous power. “We understand that demand will continue to grow in the coming days,” the official wrote.

The new record represents an increase of 10.15 MW compared to the record set just 24 hours earlier.

The head of Energy and Mines has attributed this behavior to the greater economic activity in the country, the high temperatures typical of the season, and the growing use of electrical equipment in homes, businesses, and industries.
