The protest occurred after the death of the young Ángel Miguel “Papucho” Santos, who was run over by a truck driven by a police officer who was intervening in a street party. Although the National Police has classified the event as an accident, community residents claim that the act was intentional, which heightened tensions and triggered the riots. The court ordered the accused to serve preventive detention at the Rafey Hombres Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Santiago while investigations into the case continue.
