Santiago.- Residents of the Villa González municipality in the province of Santiago staged a protest this Monday in different sectors of the municipality, where they burned tires, threw debris onto the roads, and knocked down trees to demand the transfer of National Police Major Pedro González, whom they declared persona non grata in the community.
The demonstration was called by the People’s Defense Movement and citizens of Villa González, whose members denounced alleged abuses and mistreatment committed against residents of the town, a situation that, they claim, has generated growing discontent among the townspeople.
During the day of protest, demonstrators blocked several streets with debris and tree trunks, causing the interruption of vehicular traffic and the temporary paralysis of commercial and productive activities in different areas of the municipality.

The protest organizers asserted that the officer’s presence leading police operations in the district has caused conflicts with various sectors of the community, and therefore they demanded that the higher authorities of the National Police order his immediate transfer.

The protesters warned that they will continue to carry out pressure actions until their demands are heard and changes are made to the police staffing in Villa González.
So far, police authorities have not offered an official version regarding the complaints made by the protesters nor regarding the transfer request for Major Pedro González.
