Santo Domingo. The presidential hopeful of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Francisco Javier García, asserted that no body within that political organization can prevent him from participating in proposal discussion forums such as RD Debate, maintaining that pre-candidates have the freedom to attend these types of events.
The statements were offered during an interview with communicator Enmanuel Santana, correspondent for Grupo Panorama in Europe, in which he addressed topics related to the PLD’s internal process and the importance of debates as part of democratic strengthening.
García indicated that he has not received any instructions from the internal process organizing committee, headed by Cristina Lizardo, that would limit his participation in public debates, and therefore reiterated his willingness to attend any forum where he can present his proposals to the citizenry.
“The PLD knows that every candidate has the freedom to participate with their strategic plan in an effort to disseminate their ideas. We are going to participate in that debate and in any other debate that is proposed,” he stated.
The political leader maintained that the debates represent an opportunity for the population to learn about the different proposals on issues of national interest, including employment, the cost of living, citizen security, education, health, energy, and the environment.

Likewise, he stated that this type of exercise strengthens democracy by allowing citizens to compare the initiatives of those who aspire to lead the country.
“Debating is not fighting; debating is exposing ideas and solutions to national problems,” he stated.
García considered that all PLD presidential aspirants should participate in RD Debate, understanding that these meetings raise the level of political discussion and serve as preparation for future exchanges with candidates from other organizations.
The leader added that these scenarios also contribute to making the candidates’ proposals known and strengthen the party’s presence in the debate on the main challenges facing the Dominican Republic.
RD Debate will begin on August 23rd with the participation of the presidential candidates from the PLD. The initiative is organized by the Economic and Social Development Council of Santo Domingo (CODESSD) with the purpose of fostering the exchange of ideas and proposals on the main issues of national interest.
