GSD Commonwealth welcomes enactment of the Law on Management and Final Disposal of Solid Waste
Santo Domingo. – The mayor of the municipality of Los Alcarrizos and president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of Greater Santo Domingo, Danilo Rafael Santos Junior, expressed his satisfaction and positive assessment of the enactment of the Law on Management and Final Disposal of Solid Waste, carried out this Tuesday by the President of the Republic, Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona.
The municipal executive described the entry into force of this legislation as a transcendental step for the strengthening of the integral and sustainable management of solid waste in the Dominican Republic, while highlighting the direct impact it will have on the quality of life of the municipalities of Los Alcarrizos, Gran Santo Domingo and the country in general.
“This law represents a significant step forward in protecting the environment, preserving public health, and promoting the sustainable development of our communities,” said Mayor Santos Junior, highlighting the central government’s commitment to a modern and responsible environmental policy.
The mayor emphasized that the regulations strengthen the institutional and revenue-generating capacity of local governments, which will allow city councils to offer more efficient and higher quality services in terms of management, collection, and final disposal of solid waste.
He also indicated that the new law opens up important opportunities for municipalities, including the possibility of investing in infrastructure, optimizing resources, reducing operating costs, and strengthening municipal autonomy, key elements for more effective local management.
In his capacity as president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of Greater Santo Domingo, Santos Junior expressed that this legislation marks a milestone in the environmental and municipal policy of the country, by establishing a more solid legal framework to face one of the main urban challenges of today.
Finally, the mayor reiterated his gratitude and congratulations to President Abinader for the enactment of the law, highlighting his leadership and strategic vision aimed at ensuring a more sustainable future for present and future generations.
