Haitian government denies Smith Augustin’s detention in Dominican territory

Port-au-Prince. – The Haitian Presidency denied this Wednesday that the advisor and member of the Presidential Transition Council, Smith Augustin, has been arrested by Dominican authorities after entering the country on July 30th. Through an official statement, the Haitian government clarified that Augustin’s entry into Dominican territory was duly authorized, within the framework of diplomatic relations and good neighborliness between both nations.

“Contrary to the accusations spread, Mr. Augustin was never detained in the Dominican Republic,” states the press release, which also specifies that the trip made by the official was of a personal nature and was carried out in compliance with all diplomatic and customs procedures established at the border.
