Santiago.- The defense for Héctor Antonio Lora Cruceta, former president of the Board for the Fight Against Cancer, asserted this Tuesday that their client never managed public funds and denounced that the judicial process against him responds to an alleged interest by the Public Ministry to intervene and control the Cibao Regional Oncological Institute.

During the hearing of the case, lawyer Juan Francisco Rodríguez Consoró reported that he submitted documents and certifications to the court which, he claims, prove that Lora Cruceta did not hold the status of a public official nor did he manage state resources during his tenure at the head of the entity.

“There is a certification from the Ministry of the Presidency and the corresponding institutions that establishes that during the 2018-2025 period, Héctor Lora Cruceta did not manage public funds,” the jurist maintained.

Rodríguez Consoró described the process as an unjustified persecution and asserted that the Public Prosecutor’s Office is using State resources to investigate a private, non-profit institution.

“The Oncology Center is a private institution that does not belong to the public health network and did not receive public funds, as established by the Ministry of Public Health itself,” he stated.

The lawyer also stated that the more than RD$3.7 billion that are part of the investigation correspond to resources billed and used by the medical center itself for its operation, rejecting any allegation of embezzlement.
