The head of the Operational Training Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, died this Monday after his vehicle exploded in a parking lot in southern Moscow.

The spokeswoman for Russia’s Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, announced that the explosion was caused by a device placed under the car. A criminal case has been opened for the murder of the high-ranking military official.

“Investigators are considering various theories about the murder. One of them is that the crime was orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence agencies,” Petrenko emphasized.

In addition, the spokeswoman pointed out that forensic investigators were sent to the scene to provide practical assistance in solving the crime. “The necessary examinations will be ordered, including forensic and explosive tests. Witnesses and eyewitnesses are being questioned, and security camera recordings are being examined,” she detailed.
