High temperatures and Sahara dust will maintain a stifling atmosphere in the country

Santo Domingo.- Heat will continue to prevail across much of the national territory over the coming days due to the combination of high temperatures and the arrival of a higher concentration of Saharan dust, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) reported this Tuesday.

Forecaster José Medina explained that maximum temperatures have fluctuated between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, although in provinces of the northwest and southwest they have exceeded 37 and even 38 degrees, while rainfall will remain scarce and limited to isolated showers in inland areas of the country.

The specialist indicated that, starting this Wednesday, the increase in Saharan dust will favor a higher heat index, although he clarified that the heat is mainly due to the time of year and not exclusively to this atmospheric phenomenon.

Likewise, he pointed out that rainfall will continue to be isolated and short-lived, concentrating mainly over locations in the Central Mountain Range and the Northeast region, while in Greater Santo Domingo and other urban areas, a mostly clear and hot environment will persist.

Given these conditions, INDOMET urged the population to stay well hydrated, wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., when solar radiation reaches its most intense levels.
