Santiago.- Former President of the Republic, Hipólito Mejía, described this Thursday as positive that the young leaders of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) present their presidential aspirations, considering that the political organization has the obligation to allow them to show themselves before the national electorate. “Some hit and others don’t, but I don’t see anything wrong with them aspiring to the internal affairs of the party,” expressed the former president, who recalled that there are still three years until the next elections and that it is too early to address the issue with greater intensity. Mejía responded to the statements of the president of the PRM, José Ignacio Paliza, who asked officials with presidential aspirations to resign from their positions to concentrate on their projects. In that sense, he maintained that the essential thing is to guarantee transparency and equal conditions within the organization. However, he warned that it would be negative to use the State’s forces for personal propaganda purposes, clarifying that “that is not going to happen in the ruling party.”

The statements were offered during a courtesy visit to the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez, who considered it a privilege to receive the former president. Rodríguez highlighted that he worked alongside Mejía during his government management, an experience he described as gratifying, and emphasized that, looking ahead, the priority of the PRM should be to strengthen the organization and ensure transparent management that meets the expectations of citizens.
