Miami.- The president of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), Pierre Manigault, stated that the media is going through a decisive moment and must assume a leadership role in the face of the transformation that artificial intelligence is causing in the journalistic industry.
Upon inaugurating the SIPConnect 2026 conference, Manigault maintained that innovation can no longer be seen as an option, but rather as an essential component to guarantee the sustainability of media and strengthen its ability to inform in an increasingly competitive and technological environment.
The IAPA president highlighted that the meeting was conceived to help journalistic organizations anticipate the changes the industry is experiencing, share experiences, and learn about tools that allow for adaptation to a new reality marked by artificial intelligence, the evolution of audiences, and the transformation of business models.
Manigault pointed out that the media faces the challenge of incorporating new technologies without abandoning the fundamental principles of journalism, such as credibility, fact-checking, and a commitment to freedom of the press, pillars that he considered indispensable for maintaining audience trust in the digital age.
Likewise, he highlighted the importance of media companies exchanging knowledge and developing joint strategies to face the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, from content production to the economic sustainability of newsrooms.
