Indotel headquarters will bear the name of Orlando Martínez Howley in recognition of his journalistic legacy

Santo Domingo.– The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, has ordered that the headquarters of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), located on 27 de Febrero Avenue in the National District, be named after the prominent journalist Orlando Martínez Howley, as a tribute to his legacy in defense of freedom of the press and the democratic values of the country. The decision was formalized through Decree No. 160-26, which establishes that the corporate building of the telecommunications regulatory body will be renamed the Orlando Martínez Howley Corporate Building. In the document, the Executive Branch highlights that Martínez Howley holds a place of honor in the history of Dominican journalism for his firm commitment to the truth, human dignity, and the defense of democracy. Likewise, his influential work from the column “Microscope” stands out, a space from which he practiced critical and courageous journalism, guided by ethical principles and a deep vocation of service to Dominican society.

The decree also underlines that the communicator’s trajectory constitutes a symbol of the fight for freedom of the press in the Dominican Republic, and that his legacy continues to be a reference for integrity, public responsibility and defense of freedom of expression. The provision responds to a request made by the president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications, Guido Gómez Mazara, through the official letter PRE-0000218-26 sent to the Executive Branch.
