Santo Domingo.– The executive director of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI), Alberto Rodríguez Mella, inaugurated this Friday the new roofed court of the Instituto Politécnico Profesor Víctor Rafael Estrella Liz, historically known as “La Perito,” a project built with an investment of RD$16,170,000.00 that will directly impact more than 800 students and thousands of families in communities of the National District, consolidating a new space for sports, education, and social integration.
The delivery is part of President Luis Abinader’s vision to bring decent sports facilities to the country’s educational centers, convinced that every court built is also an opportunity to keep a young person away from violence, strengthen their health, foster values, and open paths toward a better future.
In that sense, the executive director of INEFI, Alberto Rodríguez Mella, stated that the transformation of school sports is a priority of the Government and a tool to build a better society.
“When we build a roof like this, we are not just raising a structure of steel and concrete; we are raising dreams, opportunities, and hope. Here, athletes will be formed, but above all, citizens with values, discipline, and a sense of community. That is the vision that drives President Luis Abinader: to bring dignified sports facilities to every corner of the country so that school sports continue to be an engine of social transformation,” expressed Rodríguez.

The work represents a new meeting point for students, teachers, parents, and residents of Ensanche La Fe, Cristo Rey, Villas Agrícolas, Ensanche Luperón, Villa Juana, and Ensanche Naco, high-density population sectors where the school transcends the classrooms to become a true space for community coexistence.

A legacy that transcends generations
The inauguration takes on a special meaning due to the location where this new infrastructure is built. “La Perito” is an institution that is part of the collective memory of the Dominican Republic.

Founded on January 6, 1945, through Decree No. 2383, under the name Higher School of Expert Accountants, it was born to respond to a strategic need of the country to train professionals capable of driving the economic and administrative development of a nation that was beginning to build its future.

With an enrollment of over 800 students, the Professor Víctor Rafael Estrella Liz Polytechnic Institute keeps a tradition of excellence alive by training technical high school graduates in areas such as Administrative and Tax Management, Commerce and Marketing, Network Infrastructure, Logistics and Transportation, Gastronomic Services, and Electronic Equipment.
But the history of “La Perito” is also lived in the legacy of those who walked its halls and later left an indelible mark on national life. Among its graduates are former President of the Republic Jacobo Majluta Azar; the unforgettable communicator Freddy Beras-Goico; the prominent educator and sports leader Aníbal Díaz; the renowned communications professional Pedro Jiménez and the jurist and former Minister of Higher Education Franklin García Fermín, men who found in these classrooms the starting point to serve the country from different arenas.
With this delivery, the Dominican Government and INEFI continue their work in which every sports facility built in a school represents an investment in health, coexistence, education, and hope, convinced that the best countries begin to be built where a child or a young person discovers, at the same time, the value of knowledge and the transformative power of sport.
