Man dies after receiving electric shock in San Francisco de Macorís

San Francisco de Macorís. A 69-year-old man lost his life on Friday afternoon after receiving an electric shock while working on an utility pole in the Carmen Añil neighborhood, Duarte province.

The victim was identified as Herminio Burgos Salazar, who, according to preliminary reports, was working on the upper part of the structure when, due to circumstances that are still being investigated, he made contact with a high-voltage cable.

Witnesses reported that the incident occurred suddenly and that a loud bang alerted residents of the area. Upon leaving their homes, several people observed the man suspended between the power lines, a scene that caused great shock in the community.

After receiving the alert, units from the San Francisco de Macorís Fire Department, members of the National Police, and other emergency agencies arrived at the scene. Rescue teams cut off the power supply to recover the body safely.

The medical examiner arrived at the scene and confirmed the death of Burgos Salazar. Subsequently, the authorities initiated the corresponding proceedings to clarify how the accident occurred.

As part of the investigations, the goal is to establish the circumstances under which the victim was performing the work and to determine if they had the required protection measures and equipment for this type of task.

The body will be transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), where legal procedures will be completed before it is handed over to the family for funeral services.
