Marco Rubio will participate in the peace talks between Israel and Lebanon

Washington.- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will be part of the talks between the ambassadors of Israel and Lebanon in Washington this Tuesday, according to local media.

Rubio will join the meeting in the U.S. capital, according to a State Department official cited anonymously in a report by the ABC network.

This Tuesday, a meeting will take place in the United States between the ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel, the first of a process with which Beirut seeks to agree on a ceasefire that will subsequently allow for more detailed negotiations to find long-term solutions to outstanding issues.

For its part, the Israeli delegation’s main objective is the disarmament of Hezbollah, without intentions of accepting a cessation of hostilities beforehand, which is why Qassem considered the talks as a «humiliation» and a measure detrimental to the Government and the Lebanese people.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Shiite group Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, denounced this Monday that the imminent direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are equivalent to “surrendering”, and warned the Lebanese president, Joseph Aoun, that going against his movement benefits Israel.

The ceasefire in Lebanon is not part of the two-week truce agreed between the United States and Iran last week, this point has complicated the negotiations for a definitive agreement.
