Santo Domingo.- The election of Melissa Núñez as Miss Dominican Republic Universe 2026 continues to generate divided opinions among the pageant’s followers. Although several citizens consulted considered that the new queen has the qualities to represent the country with dignity, others insisted that the representative from Samaná, Valentina Campion, was the favorite and deserved to take home the crown.

During a tour conducted by this media outlet, some interviewees stated that the jury’s decision was correct, while others expressed their disagreement and pointed out that Miss Samaná stood out for her poise, elegance, and stage presence.

Zeneida was one of the people who expressed that her favorite was the representative from Samaná. “I liked the one from Samaná. She had so much poise, her elegance; she had it all. Of course, sometimes we aren’t always winners,” she commented.

For her part, Nicole explained that, although she does not usually follow beauty pageants, she knew that Valentina Campión was among the favorites both nationally and internationally. However, she understands that the final answer may have influenced the result. “From what I saw on social media, the answer she gave was what kept her from winning. The one from Concepción de La Vega gave the best answer, and the winner is also very beautiful, she has the bearing of a queen; now what we have to do is support her,” she expressed.

Not all opinions were favorable to the verdict. A citizen asserted that the representative from Samaná should have won the crown, considering that “she was prettier, had a better presentation, spoke better, and literally gave it her all,” even going so far as to claim that the result “seems to be bought.”

Another person consulted agreed that Samaná was the strongest candidate. “For me, Samaná was better because it had many more expectations to offer. Even so, I understand that it was a good choice, regardless of everything,” he stated.

Israel also recalled that the representative from Samaná was one of the public’s favorites, although he supported the jury’s final decision. “Yes, I am satisfied with the winner because she has the poise to be a queen and represent the country,” he maintained.

Meanwhile, another interviewee described Melissa Núñez’s selection as fair, although she acknowledged the performance of several finalists. “The one from Samaná was very pretty, I even liked her dress more. La Vega was very good, Samaná too, but the one who won did an incredible job,” she concluded.

The opinions gathered reflect that, despite Melissa Núñez’s coronation, Valentina Campión managed to establish herself as one of the public’s great favorites. However, a significant portion of those consulted understands that, beyond personal preferences, it is appropriate to support the new queen in her preparation to represent the Dominican Republic on the international stage.
